A pair of antique Indian hand-painted figural brass head religious sculptures.

19th century, Maharashtra or Karnataka region of India, depicting Gauri, exceptionally executed in brass with polychrome pigment decoration, hollow with loop / handle at back of each.

Gauri or Parcati is the Hindu goddess of power, energy, nourishment, harmony, love, beauty, devotion, and motherhood. A benevolent goddess, consort of Shiva or Varuna, connected with the rains, she is reputed to be the source of the world and the embodiment of motherhood

Great condition with beautifully aged warm patina. Wear consistent with age, use and handling, including patinated brass, oxidation, tarnish, minor pitting and rubbing, all typical and age appropriate. The small statues present splendidly!
